A 27-year-old man was fatally wounded Thursday afternoon in a shooting on the Southwest Side in the city's Marquette Park neighborhood.
About 3:30 p.m., a man was shot in the chest on the 6300 block of South Kedzie Avenue, said police.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:31 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The circumstances leading up to the attack were not immediately available.
The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the man as Jeremiah Brown of the 6200 block of South Albany Avenue.
As of 4:30 p.m., no one was in custody for the shooting and police were investigating. He appeared to have been shot in the chest, officials said.
Earlier, a 17-year-old boy was found dead behind a vacant building on the 6500 block of South Damen Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood.
The teen was found decomposed but appeared to have been shot, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, officials said.
The boy, identified as Darryl Green of the 6400 block of South Wolcott Avenue by the Cook County medical examiner's office, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:45 p.m.
An autopsy conducted Friday determined that he died from a gunshot wound to his head and ruled his death a homicide.
Chicago police officials are conducting a death investigation, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.
