A 51-year-old man died this afternoon after being shot earlier in the North Lawndale neighborhood in a "narcotics-related" incident, police said.

The victim was identified as Curtis Porter, of the 600 block of South Christiana Avenue, was declared dead at 1:42 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The shooting happened at 9:23 a.m. on the 1300 block of South Christiana Avenue, said Chicago Police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.

The victim was standing out on the street when a dark colored SUV pulled up and a man in the passenger side of the vehicle got out, police said.

The man went up to the victim and open fired, striking the man in the chest and abdomen, police said.

The man then ran back to the SUV, which was driven by another man, and the SUV fled the scene, Ursitti said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition where he later died, police said.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from a drug deal gone bad.
