A man found beaten in the West Humboldt Park neighorhood last year died early Thursday after being hospitalized since his injuries, authorities said.
Heliodoro Gill, 53, was declared dead at 4:12 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Police were called to the 1500 block of North Kedvale about 3:30 a.m. on June 19, 2012, and found the victim on the ground, bleeding from the head, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien.
Investigators were able to determine little of what happened, except that it appeared the victim had been struck from behind with a weapon, police said. Although the medical examiner’s office said Gill lived in the 4200 block of West Armitage Avenue, police records indicate the victim was found outside his home.
Area North detectives were investigating. No one has been arrested in the case, according to police and court records.
An autopsy on Gill's body was scheduled for Friday.
