A man was shot to death in the West Woodlawn neighborhood this morning, authorities said.

Phillip Henderson, 27, of the 6200 block of South Langley Avenue, was declared dead at 10:38 a.m. at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook county after being shot  in the 600 block of East 62nd Street, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was shot just before 10 a.m., said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada.

Henderson was standing on the street when a man or boy came up to him and shot him in the chest, Estrada said.

He was taken to Stroger, initially in serious condition, Estrada said.
