A 17-year-old boy was shot and critically wounded in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood this morning, police said.
The teen, shot in the 6300 block of South King Drive about 7:10 a.m., was one of at least two people shot on the South Side since 7 a.m.
The boy was standing on the street when a man or boy came up and shot at him, striking the boy in the neck, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada. The attacker then fled on foot.
The boy was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was in critical condition, Estrada said. Area Central detectives had no one in custody.
About 10:30 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 6100 block of South May Street in the Englewood neighborhood, Estrada said.
The man was walking on the street when a man or boy came up to him and fired a gun at him, hitting him in the left leg, Estrada said. The man was taken to St. Bernard Hospital and Healthcare Center, where he was in good condition.
Area South detectives did not have anyone in custody.
