A man was shot to death and four people were wounded in other attacks on the South Side Monday, police said.
About 8 p.m., a Chicago man was shot multiple times in the 10400 block of South Green Street in the Washington Heights neighborhood, police said. Stephon Wright, 18, of the 10800 block of S. Racine Avenue, was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m. at Roseland Community Hospital, the Cook County medical examiner's office said.
Police and witnesses say the man had been in a parked car with two other people when a second car pulled up and someone inside started shooting. The shooter then stepped out of the car and fired a second burst before the car sped off, police said.
Also Monday night, a 15-year-old boy was shot about 10:40 p.m. in the 6400 block of South Claremont Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood, police said. The boy was struck in the leg and taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
Police did not describe the circumstances of the shooting apart from saying the boy told police he heard shots and felt pain.
About 9:30 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the 0-100 block of East 59th Street in the Washington Park neighborhood, police said. The man sustained graze wounds to the back and calf and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
Earlier Monday, two women were shot near 102nd and State streets in the Fernwood neighborhood a little before 1:45 p.m. and ran into Rose Ridge Foods, 10500 S. Michigan Ave., for help.
"I know both of them. They ran in here," said store owner Tom Sweis. One of the women screamed, "I'm shot, I'm shot," he said.
"When I heard that, I called police," Sweis said. "I saw the blood, I saw the bullet hole in her chest. She was walking around, I hope she'll be OK."
The women did not say how they had been shot. "You can't really know," he said.
"They're very nice people, very friendly," he said, adding that the woman shot in the chest "comes in sometimes with her kids."
One of the women, who is 42, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was in critical condition early this morning. The second victim, who is 32, was treated and released from Roseland Community Hospital.
