A 21-year-old man shot to death in an Englewood building was among at least five people shot in seven hours Wednesday on the South and Northwest sides, authorities said.

Police were called to the scene in the 6900 block of South Racine Avenue following a report of a person shot about 1:30 p.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien.

In the front hallway of an apartment building in that block, police found a 21-year-old man shot in the stomach, authorities said.

Jonathan Johnson, whose home address was not released, was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:50 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

No suspects were in custody as of early this morning.

About 8 p.m., a 49-year-old man was shot during an apparent carjacking in the 2000 block of North Richmond Street, in the Palmer Square neighborhood, police said.

The man was struck in the chest and thigh and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

Authorities are still searching for the suspects and the vehicle, which has an Illinois license plate of K489983, according to police.

In the Logan Square neighborhood, two 20-year-old men were shot in the 3700 block of West Schubert Avenue about 7:15 p.m., O'Brien said. One was shot in the upper arm and the other was shot in the right shoulder, and both were in good condition at Norwegian-American Hospital.

Earlier, about 3:30 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the hip in a drive-by shooting in the 7500 block of South Chappell Avenue, police said.

The boy had been walking through an alley with a friend when someone in the passenger's side of a white car opened fire, striking him in the hip, police said. The boy was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.
