A 16-year-old boy wounded in a Gage Park gang shooting may have shot himself, according to police.

The teen walked into Saint Anthony Hospital on the West Side with a gunshot wound to his leg a little after 1:30 a.m., according to police.

The boy told police someone in a car shot him near 50th Street and Oakley Avenue. There was an exchange of words on the street and the 16-year-old flashed gang signs before being shot, according to police.

But the wound to the boy's leg has a downward trajectory and police said the boy's clothing had no bullet holes, suggesting the gun was fired in his pocket or waistband, according to authorities.

The teen is expected to recover from his wound and will likely be released from the hospital this morning.

No one is in custody and Area Central detectives are investigating.
