Three men were wounded during two separate shootings this afternoon on the South Side, police said.

Most recently, in the South Chicago neighborhood about 5:30 p.m., two males were shot in the 8700 block of South Houston Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.

The two were wounded in their shoulders and were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Zala said.

The victims, both 35-year-old men, were in serious to critical condition, according Chicago Fire Department spokesman Will Knight.

The first shooting happened in the city's South Shore neighborhood when someone shot a 23-year-old man multiple times about the body about 2:50 p.m. in the 7400 block of South Phillips Avenue, according to Zala.

The victim was taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, said Zala, who described the incident as apparently gang-related.
