A 20-year-old Chicago man died Friday night after being shot early Friday morning about a block from his Southwest Side home, police said.

The man, identified this morning as Andreas Avitia of the 4100 block of West 77th Place by the Cook County medical examiner's office, was a passenger in a vehicle in the 7700 block of South Pulaski Road about 1:36 a.m. Friday when he was hit in the head and arm by bullets fired from another vehicle, police said.

The driver of the vehicle in which Avitia was riding took the victim in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. He was pronounced dead there at 10:17 p.m., the medical examiner said.

The shots came from a small gray sedan that carried 2 to 4 people, police said.

There have been no arrests, police said, who did not have a motive for the killing. But people have been brought in for questioning, sources said.
