A 14-year-old boy was shot in the torso and critically wounded in the Lawndale neighborhood Sunday, one of at least seven people shot since late Sunday morning in Chicago, police said.
The boy was walking into a store in the 1500 block of South Kedzie Avenue at about 10:35 a.m. when someone fired several shots and he was hit in the back, police said.
He collapsed inside a store and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, authorities said. The boy's condition was serious Sunday afternoon, Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said.

The boy, who is from a west suburb, may have been in the area to visit a church, police said. He is not believed to have been the intended target.
About 1:30 p.m., a man in his 20s was shot in the buttocks in the 7900 block of South Manistee Avenue, and he was in good condition when he was taken to an area hospital, O'Brien said.
About 5:56 p.m., two men were shot near 89th and Houston Streets, O'Brien said. A 25-year-old man was shot in an arm and a leg and a 19-year-old was shot in the leg, he said. Both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where their conditions had stabilized.
Later, about 8 p.m. a 32-year-old man was shot in the right thigh in the 800 block of East 87th Place, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. The man, who told police he was walking when he heard shots and felt pain, was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
About 11:45 p.m., a 35-year-old man was shot twice in the stomach in the 10100 block of South Winston Avenue, Greer said. The man was taken to Advocate Christ, where his condition was stabilized.
In the most recent shooting, about 3:30 a.m. a 20-year-old man was shot in the arm in in the 7400 block of South Princeton Avenue, Greer said. The man told police he was walking when he heard shots and felt pain, police said.
He was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hosptial of Cook County, where his condition was stabilized.
No arrests have been made.
