Berkeley police are investigating the killing of a man found shot to death in his car outside his home Monday night.

Lavert Horne, 21, was found sitting in the driver’s seat of his parked car in the driveway of his home in the 1500 block of Morris Ave., after police received a call regarding a person in a car who was unresponsive, according to a police news release. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:43 p.m. Monday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Horne had an apparent gunshot wound to the head, the release said. The medical examiner's office determined he had died from a gunshot wound to the head in a homicide.
