Two men killed on the Northwest Side were among at least nine people shot in the city Friday afternoon into Saturday morning, according to police.
About 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Luciano Torres, 26, was shot in the 4800 block of West Deming Place in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood and was pronounced dead at 6:36 a.m. Saturday at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, authorities said.
The victim was sitting in the driver's seat of a double-parked sport-utility vehicle when a red SUV pulled up alongside, and someone fired several shots into the double-parked vehicle, hitting the driver in the left side of the head and his upper body, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien. No one was in custody.
About 9:50 p.m. Friday, a 29-year-old man was standing outside in the 2800 block of North Talman Avenue in Avondale when two male assailants approached on foot, Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
At least one of the assailants opened fire, striking the man in the shoulder, Alfaro said. The man ran into a nearby home and collapsed. The man, identified as Jeffrey Anderson, of the home where he was found dead, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Area North detectives are investigating the killing.Also about 4:30 a.m., two men were shot from behind while walking down the sidewalk in the 5800 block of North Kenmore Avenue, police said.
One of the men, who is 52, was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston with a gunshot wound to the leg. The other, 43, was shot in both legs and was taken to Illinois Masonic. Both their conditions were stabilized.
Shortly before 3 a.m., a 44-year-old man was wounded in an apparent drive-by shooting on the 1900 block of West Grand Avenue, said police.
Preliminary reports said the man was standing outside when a vehicle pulled up and someone fired shots in his direction. He was struck in the left hand and was taken in good condition to St. Mary's Hospital, said police.Earlier, a 28-year-old man was shot about 12:10 a.m. 3300 block of West 30th Street in the Little Village neighborhood.
Police were called to the block for a report of a person shot and found the man with a gunshot wound to the head, Alfaro said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
About 6:20 p.m. Friday, a 26-year-old man was shot in the buttocks in the 300 block of East 58th Street. The man was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr., where his condition was stabilized.
In the Back of the Yards neighborhood, a teenage boy was seriously hurt Friday afternoon when he was shot in the head.
The victim, a 17-year-old boy, was shot in the head about 5:05 p.m. in the 1800 block of West 52ndStreet, according to police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, Ursitti said.
In West Woodlawn, a 33-year-old man was shot about 4:25 p.m., police said.
The man was on the street in the 400 block of East 63rd Street when someone came up to him and shot at the man several times, police said. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks and a graze wound to the neck, and was treated at St. Bernard Hospital and Healthcare Center.
The shooting took place just east of Dulles Elementary School, near that school's Safe Passage route.
