A 24-year-old man is being questioned tonight in the shooting of a 5-year-old boy and two men early Friday in a West Pullman neighborhood park, sources said.
The boy, Jaden Donald, and two men, 28 and 34, were shot about 12:45 a.m. Friday at Cooper Park, at 117th and Ada Streets.
Jaden was shot in the abdomen and right leg while with his family at the park.
At Advocate Christ Medical Center later the morning her son was shot, Jasmine Donald said the family had been at the park less than 15 minutes when a young man shot into the crowd at the park.
"Everybody ran. The kids hit the ground. My son tried to run to me."
The boy lost three organs, she said.
Police said neither of the wounded men has documented gang affiliations.
Someone drove all three to Metro South Medical Center in Blue Island and the boy was transferred to Christ Medical Center, police said.
The suspect was arrested at his Far South Side home about 2 p.m. Friday after police issued an investigative alert in connection with the case.
Police News Affairs did not have any information about whether someone was arrested in the shooting by about 7 p.m. tonight.
The Cook County state’s attorney’s Felony Review unit was reviewing the case for charges.
