A man and two women, one of them pregnant, were shot as they sat inside a SUV that had broken down on a Dan Ryan Expressway ramp.

A man and two women, one of them pregnant, were shot as they sat inside a SUV that had broken down on a Dan Ryan Expressway ramp early this morning, according to Illinois State Police.

The 2008 Buick SUV broke down along a southbound exit ramp to 71st Street, state police said in a news release this morning. As its four occupants waited for help, a black Dodge Charger with orange stripes pulled up about 1:25 a.m. and at least one person inside started shooting, according to the release.

Three of the SUV's four occupants were struck, according to state police. The 27-year-old man driving was shot four times, and two women in the car, who are 24 and 19 years old, were shot three and six times, respectively.

State police said the man was shot in his upper extremities and the women were shot in their lower extremities. The 24-year-old woman is pregnant, authorities said.

A third female passenger was not injured.

The three people shot were taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County and Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Their conditions have been stabilized, according to police.

The 71st Street exit ramp was closed until about 8:30 a.m. as state police investigated the shooting.
