A 24-year-old man was killed in the South Shore neighborhood Sunday, and seven others were injured in shootings from midday Sunday through early this morning, according to police.
About 3:20 p.m., a man was shot in his head on the 2400 block of East 75th Street in the South Shore neighborhood on the South Side, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.
Jordan Jefferson, of the 7500 block of South Yale Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:56 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
An autopsy is scheduled for today.
Less than three hours later, a 26-year-old woman and her toddler son were shot in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. The shooting happened shortly before 6 p.m. on the 1700 block of West 73rd Street, police said.
A relative said the shooting happened as the woman sat in the passenger's seat of a minivan with her son on her lap.
In the most recent shooting, a 24-year-old man was shot in the course of a robbery, police said. Two assailants approached him about 3:35 a.m. in the 4200 block of West Wilcox Street in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side and tried to rob him, News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
After a brief struggle, the man was shot in the leg while trying to flee, police said. His condition was stabilized at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
About 2:10 a.m. this morning, two men were shot in the 5700 block of South Prairie Avenue in the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side, Alfaro said. One of the men, believed to be in his 40s, was shot in the leg and the other, who is 51, sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and leg. Both were taken to Provident Hospital and later transferred to Stroger hospital, police said.
The men, who police found in a vacant lot, were not cooperating with police, Alfaro said.
About 8:20 p.m. Sunday night, a 22-year-old man was shot in the arm in the 3000 block of South Avers Avenue in the Little Village neighborhood. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, Alfaro said.
Another male was wounded late Sunday morning in a shooting in the city's Morgan Park neighborhood. That shooting happened about 11:22 a.m. on the 1300 block of West 112th Street.
According to preliminary information, the male was inside a car when another vehicle pulled up and someone from inside fired shots, said News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. The victim, whose age was not immediately available, suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder, Mirabelli said, citing preliminary information.
There was no information immediately available about where the victim was taken for treatment.
