One man was killed and another wounded Wednesday in a shooting in a Chatham neighborhood apartment building.

The shooting happened about noon on the 700 block of East 79th Street, said Police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan.

One man, identified as Tevin Bryant, 19, of the 7900 block of South Greenwood Avenue, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:37 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The other man, age 20, suffered wounds to his elbow and forearm and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.

The two men entered the apartment building with a group of other people, and the 20-year-old waited in a hallway while the other man went into an apartment with the others, police said. The man waiting outside heard gunshots and began to run away, but was wounded as he fled, police said.

Bryant died from a gunshot wound to the head, the Cook County medical examiner's office determined following an autopsy Thursday.

Police are investigating.
