A woman, a Chicago Police officer and a firefighter were hospitalized following a fire in the West Woodlawn neighborhood this morning.

The fire started about 8:30 a.m. on the third floor of a building in the 600 block of East Marquette Road, according to Fire Department spokesman Kevin MacGregor.

Three people who were injured are recovering in good condition, he said.

A woman burned her hands causing blisters when she tried to put the fire out by herself, and she was taken to University of Chicago Hospitals in good condition, according to MacGregor.

A police officer who burst into the building to roust occupants suffered smoke inhalation and was also taken to U. of C. to be examined, MacGregor said.

One firefighter was injured, but not seriously.

Two adults and four children were displaced, according to American Red Cross spokesman Gerry Holmes.

The Red Cross provided food, including infant formula, for the residents.
