Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago said Thursday that it plans to end its current season with the world premiere of "Mojada," a new adaptation of the classical Greek tragedy "Medea" set in modern-day Pilsen.  It's the work of Luis Alfaro, the author of last summer's well-received "Oedipus el Rey."

"Mojada" will replace the previously scheduled production of "Chicago is Burning" by Marcus Gardley, which the theater wants to work on further before giving the piece a prime-time slot.

Victory Gardens artistic director Chay Yew said the Alfaro play came out of the author's desire to write specifically for and about the Mexican-American community in Chicago. Among its other themes, the new piece will look at the Euripidean drama in terms of immigration.

"Mojada" will open at the Biograph Theatre, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave., on July 22.
