Shootings kill man, 24, wound 2 others

A 24-year-old man died Monday evening after he was shot several times, authorities said.

A gunman approached the victim and opened fire around 4:55 p.m. in the 9000 block of South Ada in the Brainerd neighborhood on the South Side, according to police.  

The man was found on the sidewalk and died on the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. The medical examiner's office identified him as Michael Powell, of the 8500 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Two men were wounded in West Side shootings Monday morning, police said.

One was shot  in the thigh around 10:45 a.m. on the 2700 block of South Trumbull Avenue in the Little Village neighborhood on the West Side. He was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, according to police. The man is believed to be in his mid-30s.

A 20-year-old man was shot in the face around 11:30 a.m. on the 700 block of South Washtenaw Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, police said. He was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious condition, police said.

No one has been taken into custody, police said.
