"The Game Show Show ... and Stuff," an interactive comedy by Anderson Lawfer and James Anthony Zoccoli first seen at the Strawdog Theatre in 2006, is to get a commercial run at the Mercury Theatre, 3745 N. Southport Ave., in the heart of a North Side restaurant and retail district.
Opening night is set for Oct. 22; the show will play Friday and Saturday late-nights through at least the end of the year.
Directed by Noah Simon and featuring a live six-piece band (not to mention Nikki Klix and Anne Sheridan Smith as "The Show Show Girls"), the show is billed as a cross between "Jackass," "Double Dare," "Soul Train" and "The Price is Right." Audience members can take part in various trivia, guessing and physical games, and can win prizes (or stuff). The show, which already has a following, also includes dancing and campy variety acts.
The producer at the Mercury is Damian Arnold, whose British Stage Company previously produced "Don't Dress for Dinner" at the Royal George Theatre, a production headed, Arnold said, to Broadway.
