Pilot for CW's 'Supernatural' spinoff will briefly film in Chicago

The CW announced last week that long running drama “Supernatural” may get a spinoff. And unlike the original, which follows brothers Dean and Sam Winchester as they hunt ghosts and monsters all over the country, the potential spinoff, “Supernatural: Bloodlines,” would take place in Chicago.

According to sources, the spinoff will be introduced as a backdoor pilot in the 20th episode of the current "Supernatural" season (“Chicago Fire” did the same thing with its spinoff, “Chicago PD”). The majority of the pilot episode will film in Vancouver, which is where the original "Supernatural" is filmed, but shooting will also take place for three or four days in Chicago in late-March.

Entertainment Weekly quoted “Supernatural” executive producer Robert Singer as saying "Bloodlines" would “explore the clashing monster and human characters." He added “we’ll have main characters who are both human and monsters (and) families of monsters and families of hunters. ... It’s much more of an ensemble than ‘Supernatural.’ ”

Viewers will meet the spinoff's monster-hunter, Ennis Roth, the son of a cop, when he runs into "Supernatural" protagonists Sam and Dean Winchester in the pilot, reported TV Line.

“Supernatural” is known for having one of the most passionate fanbases. There’s even a touring “Supernatural” convention, which this year will take place Oct. 24-26 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Rosemont. “Supernatural” stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are scheduled to attend.
