Lavish but louche hosts have known for generations that nothing sparks a party like something illicit: A woman in a velvet swing in the 1900's, bathtub gin in the 1920s, foie gras in Chicago just a few years ago. But cheese?
For what other reason than a big old-fashioned blow-out would two ladies swipe $600 worth of cheese from a Whole Foods Market in Oregon? And not just any cheese but uncut wheels of gouda and blue cheese? Wheels they ask for and receive a packing box to carry them in? (That's why I think the ladies were having a party. If they were just going to take the cheese home and chow down in front of the television they would have grabbed any old chunks and slabs out of the cheese case.)
Here's the story from The Huffington Post. The cheese thieves are still on the lam.
