The Steppenwolf Theatre Company is about to post "pardon our dust" notices in its lobbies.
On Monday, workers are to remove the facade of the former home of the Ethan Allen furniture store at 1700 N. Halsted St., located directly north of the Steppenwolf Theatre at 1650 N. Halsted St.
As previously reported, the building has been purchased by the famous Chicago theater company as part of a planned, multi-stage expansion program of its Lincoln Park campus, the entire scope and timetable of which has yet to be finalized.
The building at 1700 Halsted is to be known (for now, at least) as The Lab at Steppenwolf, a new center for the theater's education programs, as well as exhibition space and room for expanded audience services.
