A 42-year-old man was seriously injured when he was hit by a car while riding a skateboard in the Bucktown neighborhood on the North Side this morning.

The driver left the scene but Shakespeare district tactical officers caught up with him and he was being questioned  by detectives, police said.

The accident occurred about 2 a.m. as the man was riding a skateboard in the bike lane, police said. He was hit by a car traveling south in the 1700 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to police.

The man was taken to Stroger  Hospital in critical condition.

The 32-year-old driver made it three or four blocks before officers pulled him over, police said. He was taken into custody at North and Oakley avenues and charges are pending, police said.
