The gunman stepped out of a car and started shooting, then sped away, police said.

About two hours later, a 19-year-old girl and 23-year-old woman were shot in the 7500 block of South Vernon Avenue in the Chatham neighborhood, police said. The 19-year-old was shot in the leg and was in serious condition at Christ Medical Center and the older woman, shot in the torso, was in serious condition at Stroger.

The two were outside when they were shot by someone who approached on foot, but police had no other details.

A 26-year-old man was shot about 4:40 a.m. in what he told police may have been a robbery attempt on the 5800 block of South Indiana Avenue, according to preliminary information.

The man was approached by someone who drove up to him and produced a handgun. An accomplice demanded valuables but fled without taking anything and the 26-year-old was shot and collapsed a few doors away, police said. He was at John H.
