The CTA's Holiday Train's first weekend stops took place Saturday, continuing a two-decade-long tradition for the train. The Holiday Train rode the Green Line on the West and South sides starting about 1 p.m. Saturday until after 6 p.m., according to the CTA's website.
The train, which includes Santa riding on a sleigh among decked-out trees on a flatbed car at the front of decorated "L" cars, takes Sundays off. Its next run starts Tuesday afternoon, its last run on the Green Line this year.
The train started in 1992, when CTA workers used a train that was not in service to deliver holiday food baskets to community groups—a tradition that continues today.
Runs of the train continue through Christmas Week. For a full schedule, check the CTA's web site.
