Riccardo Muti, music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, has canceled his scheduled appearances at the helm of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra this weekend because of illness, according to a statement issued by the Musikverein concert hall in Vienna.
A spokeswoman for the CSO said Muti, 71, is suffering from the flu.
Muti was supposed to have conducted concerts in the Austrian capital this Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning and Monday evening. He will be replaced by Colombian conductor and violinist Andres Orozco-Estrada and Austrian conductor-violinist Rainer Honeck. The programs will be altered accordingly.
