A man was shot in the head in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side this morning.
The man, 20, was shot in the 11500 block of South Ada shortly after 9 a.m., according to police, citing early reports.
He was taken in serious-to-critical condition by Chicago Fire Department paramedics to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
The man was a participant in a YMCA of Greater Chicago GED class that operates at at Whistler Elementary School on that block, a YMCA spokeswoman said. Classes were scheduled to be in session about the time the shooting took place, she said.
In addition to the man who was injured, at least one round hit a vehicle in the parking lot of Whistler Elementary, but no one at the school was injured.
