Chicago police discovered a Peoria man shot dead on a South Side street this morning, authorities said.
Officers responding to a shots fired call found the victim lying on a sidewalk in the first block of East 56th Street in the Washington Park neighborhood just before 3:30 a.m., police said, citing early reports.
The man, Terrell Joshua, 28, suffered gunshot wounds to his body and wasn't responding to police.
Joshua, of the 2300 block of North Flora Avenue in Peoria, was taken to John H. Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
An autopsy is scheduled for today.
Hours after the shooting, police still had few leads regarding the slaying, already the 14th this month. It was unclear exactly why Joshua was in Chicago, though court records showed that he had previously lived in Chicago until the late 2000s.
Authorities said Joshua had past ties to a street gang, but investigators still hadn't determined a motive.
No arrests had been made.
