The shooting happened around 3:45 p.m. Thursday near the 6700 block of South Indiana Avenue, according to Patrick Camden, a spokesman for the Chicago police union. Officers were driving south on Indiana near an alley when they spotted the boy coming out of the alley with a gun in his hand, Camden said.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the boy as Dakota Bright, of the 7600 block of South Emerald Avenue. Police sources said he was a gang member with an arrest history that includes robbery and aggravated battery to a police officer.
No officers were injured.
