Metra today unveiled a $713.5 million budget for 2013 that does not call for fare hikes or service cuts but does include options to possibly increase fares up to 10 percent.
But several Metra board members, including Acting Chairman Larry Huggins, said today they would not support any fare increase next year.
Metra's board will hold public hearings on the budget, and vote on the plan next month.
Huggins, meanwhile, retained his post for the time being after an effort by some suburban board members to replace him failed.
Member Brad O'Halloran from Orland Park failed to get enough votes to replace Huggins, from Chicago.
Huggins has been acting chairman for over a year because there has been no consensus on the top board post by chairmen of the six-county Metra region.
