Chicago might not have its own “Real Housewives” spinoff, but the former home of gangster Al Capone will have its own version of “Mob Wives” beginning this spring.
“Mob Wives: Chicago” — like the New York-based VH1 reality show “Mob Wives” — will revolve around women associated with alleged mobsters and has been filming in Chicago since December. Unlike the original, I’m told “Mob Wives: Chicago” likely will feature five cast members rather than four, but the cast — which will be revealed in the next two to three weeks — will be just as feisty.
“I have always heard the legends about Al Capone and Chicago, but it wasn’t until I actually went to the city that I became enamored with the rich mob history there,” series creator and executive producer Jennifer Graziano said in a press release. “These women’s lives are right off the pages of a storybook!”
Filming has mostly taken place in the “Mob Wives’” homes, but the cast and crew also have been spotted at Bleeding Heart Bakery & Cafe in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood — where two cast members were filmed drinking mimosas — and nearby sports bar The Fifty/50.
The New York version of “Mob Wives” is averaging 2.2 million total viewers per episode in its second season — up 60 percent from last season. VH1 recently launched “Mob Wives: The Sit Down,” which airs right after “Mob Wives” and features cast members discussing that night’s episode.
Speaking of the mob: Reelchicago.com is reporting that a pilot revolving around a female doctor who works for the mob will film in Chicago. Michael Dinner is the executive producer and director of the untitled medical drama pilot for the Fox Network.
