Service on Metra's BNSF line has returned to a normal schedule after service was delayed for hours after a pedestrian was fatally struck near the West Hinsdale station, officials said.
About 2:20 p.m., the No. 1268 train was passing Stough Street in west suburban Hinsdale when it struck a pedestrian near the West Hinsdale station, said Michael Gillis, a Metra spokesman.
The person, whose gender has not been confirmed, was fatally struck, according to Hindale Police Deputy Chief Mark Wodka. Wodka said the person was not a child.
Large crowds at Chicago Union Station caused Metra to implement its emergency overcrowding plan.
As of 7:45 p.m., Metra reported that service had resumed to its normal weekday schedule.
