A 25-year-old man was shot and killed this morning near his Southwest Side home and the suspected gunman was taken into police custody, authorities said.
The victim was shot in the head and chest as he sat inside his vehicle near his home in the 4500 block of South Lavergne Avenue in the LeClaire Courts neighborhood at about 12:10 a.m., Chicago police said, citing early reports.
The victim, Delon Brandon, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.
Court records list Brandon as recently living in south suburban South Holland.
Witnesses provided police with the name of the suspected gunman and the description of the blue SUV he escaped in, police said. Authorities tracked the suspect to the city's West Side, where he was arrested following a foot chase, police said.
The shooting was over a quarrel about the alleged gunman's ex-girlfriend who the victim was dating, police said.
No charges had been filed as the investigation by Area Central detectives was just getting underway, authorities said.
