A 17-year-old boy kidnapped more than a week ago in West Englewood has been found dead in the stairwell of an abandoned building less than a mile from where he was abducted, police said.
The teen was found Monday afternoon in the 5900 block of South Winchester Avenue, according to Police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti. He had been shot in the chest, and sources said the body had started to decompose.
He was identified as Aaron Hubbard, of the 6500 block of South Marshfield Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
An autopsy conducted today determined that Hubbard died of multiple gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide, according to the medical examiner.
The teen was reported kidnapped on Nov. 3 near 66th Street and South Hermitage Avenue. Sources said he was beaten and thrown into a truck that sped off.
Chicago police were looking into whether Hubbard’s death is connected to the fatal shootings of two other teens in West Englewood, law enforcement sources said.
On the day of Hubbard’s disappearance, Corderro “Cece” Brown, 17, was found fatally shot in the stairwell of a residence in the 6500 block of South Bishop Avenue, a few blocks from the kidnapping. The day before, Antonio Cooper, 18, was shot to death near 66th Street and Hermitage Avenue, the site of Hubbard’s abduction.
No one was in custody.
Also Monday afternoon, a 25-year-old man was shot and wounded in the Uptown neighborhood, police said. It was the fourth time he had been shot in the last year.
The man was shot in the stomach in the 4700 block of North Beacon Street at about 3:45 p.m., according to Police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious condition, Sedevic said.
The 25-year-old was sitting in a car when someone walked up and opened fire, police said. Authorities said he had also been shot on Oct. 10 and June 4 this year and Nov. 29 last year.
Another man was shot in the 1100 block of East 47th Street about 7:45 p.m. Monday, police said. The 24-year-old was shot in the face during a robbery and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was stable.
Three men approached him and two went through his pockets while the third held him at gunpoint, police said.
