A man in his 60s who was pulled from the waters of Lake Michigan by lifeguards this afternoon near North Avenue Beach has died, authorities said.
The unidentified man is believed to be in his 60s and was pronounced dead at 2:31 pm. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
As of 2:10 p.m. paramedics had arrived at Northwestern Memorial Hospital where the “extremely unstable” man was in critical condition, said Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.
The man had already been pulled from the lake near Burton Place when paramedics arrived and began CPR, said Langford.
Chicago Park District lifeguards were believed to have rescued the man, police said.
