A 33-year-old man was fatally shot during a robbery in the South Chicago neighborhood, one of at least four people, including a child, wounded in shootings Sunday night and afternoon, officials said.
The slaying happened about 3:05 p.m. on the 2900 block of East 91st Street, fatally wounding Telkia Burns, police said.
Burns was with another man who told police they were standing in a vestibule of Burns' building when a man in his early 20s walked into the building and demanded the victim's money, police said.
After Burns complied, the attacker started going through his pockets and they began arguing, police said. When it escalated into a physical fight, the attacker shot Burns near his right temple and then fled with the man's money and house keys, police said.
The victim was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 4:05 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
An 18-year-old man is being questioned this morning but no charges have been filed, police said.
Sunday night about 11:45 p.m. near Franklin Park in the city's Lawndale neighborhood, a 28-year-old man was shot in the neck in the 1400 block of South Tripp Avenue, police said.
After being shot, the man walked to the 1500 block of South Kolin Avenue, where emergency crews responded, police said. The man, who lives in that area, suffered an apparent graze wound and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.
The shooting happened near a Chicago Public Schools Safe Passage route for Hughes Elementary School, 4247 W 15th St.
In another Sunday night attack, about 9 p.m. in the 600 block of East 62nd Street in the city's West Woodlawn neighborhood, a boy was shot, officials said.
The 14-year-old victim was riding a bicycle with several companions when they were approached by two other people on bikes and one of them pulled a gun and fired five rounds, hitting the boy in the left calf, police said.
Chicago Fire Department spokesman Will Knight said the victim was taken to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital in serious-to-critical condition. Police indicated the boy's condition had stabilized.
Earlier, at about 7 p.m., a man was shot on the 900 block of North Central Park in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, according to police. The man is 31, police said, according to preliminary information.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and took himself to Norwegian-American Hospital where his condition had stabilized, police said.
