Drive-by shooting on South Colfax Avenue

A 34-year-old man was pronounced dead after being injured in a drive-by shooting in the South Shore neighborhood this morning, police said.

The shooting happened at about 9:30 a.m. on the 7400 block of South Colfax Avenue, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

The man was standing with another person near the intersection of Colfax Avenue and 74th Street when a light-colored SUV drove up and someone inside began shooting, Mirabelli said.

The victim sustained wounds to his back and leg and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he later died, police said.

No other injuries were reported, Mirabelli said.
