A 56-year-old man was ordered held this afternoon on $150,000 and accused of attacking an elderly man who offered him his phone to call police when he saw that he was apparently injured.
Freddy Feliciano of the 3100 block of North Christiana Avenue was charged with battery, robbery of a handicapped person, aggravated battery of a police officer and aggravated battery of a person over the age of 60, said prosecutors.
The victim encountered Feliciano on the 1900 block of North Seminary Avenue and noticed abrasions to his face, prosecutors said.
The victim then offered Feliciano his cell phone to call police. Feliciano took the phone and shortly after started punching the victim in his face, prosecutors said.
Officers heard about the attack on a flash message on police scanner radio and came to the scene where witnesses were waiting.
The officers were able to catch Feliciano who had fled the scene. Feliciano physically attacked one of the officers when they tried to take him into custody, said prosecutors.
The victim's cell phone was recovered from Feliciano.
