A man believed to be in his 30s found fatally shot in an alley in the West Side's South Austin neighborhood tonight, authorities said.

Police responding to shots fired in the 300 block of North Central Avenue about 9:30 p.m. found the man fatally shot in an alley between Central and North Parkside Avenue, authorities said.

The man, who remained unidentified as of 5 a.m., died on the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately clear. Area North detectives are investigating.
