A California man fell onto the third rail and was electrocuted early this morning at the Addison Red Line stop in Wrigleyville, authorities said.
The man, identified as Otis Carmichael, 44, of West Covina, California, was declared dead at 2:16 a.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
An autopsy today determined Carmichael was electrocuted when he fell onto the third rail, according to the medical examiner's office. A secondary cause of death was listed as alcohol intoxication and his death was ruled accidental, according to the medical examiner's office.
The man died after falling on the tracks at the "L" stop at 940 W. Addison St., police said.
The man was with a family member when he fell on the tracks, police said.
Witnesses saw the man fall on the tracks, and called 911, bringing Fire Department and police personnel about 1:35 a.m., police said.
Two men who tried to help the man said they were among three people who pulled the man off the tracks after he fell, and he was unresponsive when they pulled him off.
