A 20-year-old man was arrested this morning after he was spotted walking on frozen ice at Monroe Harbor about 300 yards from shore, police said.

The man was charged with reckless conduct, a misdemeanor, after he was found out on the ice at about 6:49 a.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.

The man was spotted walking out on the ice and had made his way to the frozen entrance of the harbor and falling several times along the way, said Kubiak. He kept walking out to the end of a break wall that separates the harbor from Lake Michigan and then continued walking along the break wall, said Kubiak.

As the man continued walking, Chicago police marine unit officers were called to the area and caught up to the man in a marine unit boat, Kubiak said.

After taking the man into the boat, they drove back out to the marine unit headquarters where fire department officials had paramedics waiting. The man was checked out by paramedics but did not require medical attention, Kubiak said.

The man, who lives in the area, was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor reckless conduct charge, said Kubiak.
