A 23-year-old man died after being beaten and then run over by a car in the Little Village neighborhood early Sunday morning, according to police.

The attack happened about 5:35 a.m. in the 4000 block of West 26th Street. The man was identified as Victor Ramirez, of the 3100 block of West 41st Street, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Police said the attack followed an exchange of gang slogans. After he was beaten, the car made a u-turn and ran the man over.

Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the medical examiner's office, which said his cause of death was multiple injuries from assault.
