If barbecue is a part of your Labor Day plans, you may want to fire up the grill on Sunday instead.
Officials at the National Weather Service are expecting a mostly cloudy Monday with a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms moving into the area during the morning hours. Those showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue into the afternoon.
Highs are expected to be in the lower 80s during the day, dropping to the low 60s Monday night, when there is a 40 percent chance that thunderstorms spark up again in the region, said officials.
Water vapor imagery this morning points to two mid and upper level disturbances moving into northern Illinois from Iowa and northern Minnesota, according to the National Weather Service. The two systems are expected to bring scattered showers and thunderstorms across the region Saturday, beginning this afternoon, said officials.
The area will get a break from these storms Sunday with highs in the low 80s. Officials called Sunday "the pick day of the weekend."
