A fire roared through a basement of a Jefferson Park neighborhood building on the Northwest Side this afternoon, leaving three residents displaced.

Firefighters were called to the 2-story building in the 5200 block of West Winnemac Avenue at 12:04 p.m. when the blaze began in its basement, according to Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado.

Crews threw water on the fire using two hoses and it was extinguished, he said.

No injuries were reported but three adults were displaced, prompting a call to the city’s Department of Human Services, Rosado said.

An American Red Cross spokeswoman said they were on the scene but had no further information immediately.
