The mostly autobiographical piece tells of the Kingston-born Ehrhardt's personal journey from Jamaica, the land of her birth, to America (with the help of a handsome CIA agent), along with her struggles and triumphs once she arrived on these shores, first in New York, replete with her strong Jamaican accent. It's directed by Joel Zwick, the director of the movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” as well as several Hershey Felder shows. The producers, Meadowbrook Entertainment, say that Ehrhardt's story already has been optioned for a movie.
“Jamaica Farewell” was previously produced at both the New York Fringe Festival and at the Falcon Theatre in Los Angeles, and had a five-day run last year at the Theatre Place in New Kingston, Jamaica.
