Five people were wounded in shootings across Chicago overnight, including two men hurt while sitting in a car in Austin, police said.The men, 19 and 37, were in the 5000 block of West Madison Street when someone approached on foot and started shooting around 10:20 p.m., Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
The pair drove to a home in the 1500 block of North Long Avenue and police were called, Alfaro said. The older man was taken to Stroger Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and the younger man, shot in the leg, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center.
No one was is in custody.
Also on the West Side, a man in his 30s was found shot in the 1200 block of South Racine Avenue in the University Village / Little Italy neighborhood, police said. Police responded to a call of a person shot and found the man wounded in the leg about 2:45 a.m.
A 23-year-old man was shot in the leg and groin in the 3400 block of West Walnut Street just before 8 p.m. in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. He was on a porch when three men, one with a gun, approached and told him and another person not to move.
One of the three then shot the 23-year-old, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and was in good condition.
About an hour later, a 43-year-old man was shot inside a silver car in the 8500 block of South Hermitage Avenue in the Gresham neighborhood. He was stable at Little Company of Mary Hospital.
Police were conducting a death investigation after a 56-year old man died Thursday night, one day after he was shot in his own basement Wednesday night in the Galewood neighborhood, police said. The man was shot in the head around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday and police found a gun in his hand and his insurance policy near his body.
Police first believed it was a suicide, but investigation indicates someone may have shot him, Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. He was taken to Loyola, where he was declared dead at 7:19 p.m. Thursday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
An autopsy for the man was scheduled for Saturday.
