Four wounded in West Side shooting

Four men were shot Monday night while standing on the sidewalk in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side, officials said.

The shooting broke out about 9:25 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of South Lavergne Avenue after three people approached the group on foot, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.

The men who were shot range in age from 19 to 52, Alfaro said.

A 25-year-old shot in the shoulder was in serious condition at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County. A 48-year-old man was also taken to Stroger after being shot in the buttocks, and his condition has been stabilized.

Also injured were a 19-year-old, struck in the upper left thigh, and a 52-year-old, shot in the buttocks, the leg and the ankle. Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized.

No one was in custody. Area North detectives are investigating the shooting.
