Felicia P. Fields and E. Faye Butler, both longtime stars of Chicago theater, are to be the stars of the 2012 Goodman Theatre production of Regina Taylor's "Crowns" next summer, the theater said Tuesday. The pair of much-loved divas will be joined by a young newcomer named Jasondra Johnson, whom the Goodman says was cast from a local open call. "Crowns" has long been a big regional-theater hit, but has yet to play Broadway.
Separately, Court Theatre announced the cast Tuesday for its upcoming marquee production of Tony Kushner's "Angels in America." Director Charles Newell's all-Chicago cast includes Eddie Bennett (as Louis), Mary Beth Fisher (Angel), Heidi Kettenring (Harper), Rob Lindley (Prior), Geoff Packard (Joe Pitt), Michael Pogue (Belize), Hollis Resnik (Hannah) and Larry Yando, who will go from playing Scrooge in the Goodman Theatre's "A Christmas Carol" to the role of Roy Cohn when "Angels" opens in March.
